Taking a Taxi China Vacation Sports Lots of Fun

Assuming you don't speak Mandarin, it is essential that you have your destination written down in Chinese. First, most large hotels have a convenient "taxi card" for you to take with you as you step out the door. Primarily, you should see Beijing but you will not have much choice in the matter, as you will likely be flying in through this capital city. Hong Kong is perhaps the most futuristic cities in the country. It isn't. Sound complicated? On the opposite end of the spectrum, Xian has an amazing history that no traveller should skip seeing.Hong Kong should also be on your list of cities to see, as it is unlike any other city in China. This city features some amazing historical sites, and now has some great modern wonders, thanks to their hosting of the latest Olympic Games. These cards have the hotel (so you can get back) written on one side and usually 10-15 tourist destinations on the other side. If the card doesn't have where you want to go, simply ask the concierge to write it down for you. Even if your hotel doesn't have a pre-printed taxi card, staff will be happy to write down your destination for you to give the driver. When you go to China on vacation, there are three cities that you absolutely must visit. Odds and ends China Vacation Tours Show You More Than You Could Find Chinas vacation hot spots range from the historical sites like the Great Wall of China, to the ultra-modern tech cities like Hong Kong, and the delicately balanced places in between, like the great city of Beijing. The key to enjoying your time in China is seeing as much of the country as possible, but these hot spots should be the top things on your list. ©2010 About.com, a part of The New York Times Company . Among the many things to see are the Great Wall, a series of structures that have survived for centuries and long ago, kept marauding invaders from attacking Chinese cities; the Xian Terracotta Warriors, discovered less than fifty years ago by a farmer trying to drill a new water well, and featuring over eight thousand individual figures; and the Forbidden City, a former Imperial Palace that got its name from the days when no one could leave or enter it without the approval of the Emperor. Of course, part of the fun of staying in Las Vegas is the immense and elaborate hotels. In Las Vegas, one of the few popular non-gambling activities is going to see the shows. Vacations to China are less likely to be shown in those ad spaces, but they ought to be. Chinese tourists with a valid passport only need to apply for a visa on arrival by producing a return air ticket and written confirmation of a hotel reservation after the tour group gets to the FSM. According to some travel agencies, most Chinese tourists would leave for the DPRK from Dandong in Liaoning province or from Beijing or Shenyang on flights to Pyongyang the capital of North Korea. In the Chinese opera style known as Beijing Opera, the actors display great skills in dance and other movements, song and other spoken word pieces, and physical acting. But rather than filling your stomach with cheap, bottom shelf booze, China will offer you Bai Jiu, and makes drinking into almost a social ritual meant to bring people closer together. But that is no knock on the Vegas operations China has been practicing the art of the opera for centuries. Built in sections and pieces for centuries to keep out invaders, these sites will not empty your wallet, but they will fill your mind with true wonder. Really, it is the entire reason for the existence of the city in the first place. Statistics show that Chinese tourists account for 90% of overseas tourists visiting North Korea each year. You will see plenty of advertisements in the newspaper for vacations to all corners of the world, but most of ad space seems to be dedicated to the crass and tacky. These theme resorts may cover the spectrum from fun and hokey to glittery and elaborate, but none could hold a candle to the Wangfujing Grand Hotel in Beijing. http://www.china.org.cn/travel/2010-03/04/content_19519635.htm www.china.org.cn The Chinese National Tourism Administration has said that from April 12, 2010, the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea and the Federated States of Micronesia will be new outbound travel destinations for Chinese citizens in tour groups. 2010-03-04 09:58:27.0 North Korea new outbound travel destination from China North Korea, outbound travel, destination,China, visa, tour North Korea new outbound travel destination from China North Korea new outbound travel destination from China 1007 7074061 Highlights /enpproperty--> The Chinese National Tourism Administration has said that from April 12, 2010, the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea and the Federated States of Micronesia will be new outbound travel destinations for Chinese citizens in tour groups. Micronesia, a subregion of Oceania, comprises thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean. In China, gambling is illegal, but you can wager on spending a lot of time visiting the historic sights of China the Great Wall, for instance. Vacations to China take on a whole new meaning when you spend your time at this luxury accommodation, which is walking distance from the Forbidden City.If Las Vegas is not your cup of tea, here is why a trip to China might be the perfect anti-Vegas vacation: In Las Vegas, you gamble. There are thousands of offers to get you to Vegas but what if you crave something different? The whole of Las Vegas is intended to empty your pockets with a quick flourish at the card tables. In China, drinking is far from illegal you will soon learn the phrase Gan bei! means literally, bottoms up. The entire town reeks of booze, and you will find people with open containers of alcohol stumbling along the main drag at all hours of the day. While we can agree that there are some interesting acts in Vegas, it can be argued that not even the popular Cirque du Solais shows can hold a candle to a good Chinese opera. In Las Vegas, gambling may be the favorite sport, but drinking is a close second. Baise: a place of history, modernity Vacationing In China Offers Everything While its width means that no, it is not the only man-made structure that would be visible from the moon, the sheer size and skill of the wall is still something that draws tourists from around the world, and even features a marathon along part of the wall itself. The first piece was built around 200 BC to protect a relatively small area. At its height, the wall stood nearly four thousand miles long. Ever since that time, and until the 1600s, the Chinese have added, maintained, lengthened and fortified the walls that guard their lands. http://www.china.org.cn/travel/2010-03/04/content_19519343.htm www.china.org.cn Baise - the city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is noted as a place of history - from both a very long time ago and modern China. 2010-03-04 09:50:37.0 Baise: a place of history, modernity Baise, history, modernity ,China, Guangxi Zhuang, tour, Yongjiang river, Baise: a place of history, modernity Baise: a place of history, modernity 1007 7074061 Highlights /enpproperty--> Baise - the city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is noted as a place of history - from both a very long time ago and modern China. Dong Tai Road Chinese Vacations Offer Historical Amazement

Treasure? You may find the item again, but you may not. Bargaining 101: Eight Rules and Two Myths About Shopping in China will give you more guidance to shopping and bargaining. Well, just because I'm rather proud of my purchases at Dong Tai Road so I'll share. In my experience, the best thing to do is make some snap decisions and then start the negotiations at the low end. The best thing to do is go with and open mind, a limited budget and a few ideas about what you'd like to have. Some say offer 10% of what the vendor is asking, some say 25% and work up from there. I had to walk away twice. We collect antique maps and after reading 1421 , I happened to find a really neat old map of Shanghai. It is not as simple as booking a travel deal for a more common Western destination but your hard work will pay off once you land in China, and begin your dream vacation. The street is bisected by another smaller street and "antique" stores proliferate all over the small neighborhood. It cost a small fortune but the lady wouldn't budge and I went back to see if she put a replica out after I purchased it. Unless you are a dealer in Chinese artifacts and have years of experience, trust me, you won't be able to tell the difference, and even the dealers get fooled . Chinese purveyors are experts at making fakes look like ancient treasures dug up and on sale for a fraction of what you'd pay at Sotheby's. Who knows, but I love it. Old wooden rice buckets are always a favorite, as are reed-woven fishing baskets. This will get you to the intersection. Please, don't be fooled by the offers of "antiques". I've had to ship several to friends and family who can't bear not to purchase but can't fit them in a suitcase. In the end, finding China vacation packages means doing some legwork and some research. I've found lovely blue & white porcelain ginger jars (those pot-belly jars with lids). This is pronounced: "dong tie loo" and literally is the name of the street. If your taxi driver is still confused, you can say "Dong Tai Lu kaojin Xizang Lu", pronounced "dong tie loo cow jeen she zahng loo". Tibet/Xizang Road is a major north-south thoroughfare easy to locate on a map.Daily 9am-6pmIn Mandarin, the market is called Dong Tai Lu . Let the buyer beware, unless you are a certified antiques dealer, don't think you'll come away with a Ming vase for a song. If she did, she had the courtesy to wait until the next day. You could easily spend half a day wandering around the stalls of Dong Tai Road. You can find just about anything from baskets to ceramics, Mao memorabilia, lanterns - junk or treasure - it's up to you. Shopkeepers are expert at making factory-fired porcelain look old: just rub some dirt on it!Dong Tai Road is just off Tibet or "Xizang" Road near the old part of town. but be prepared when it doesn't. Decide if you really want it. It's hard to extract a real price so you'll have to bargain to get close. Decide how much you're willing to pay. How much is it worth to you? Walk away. Sometimes it works...During one bargaining session the lady told me it was Qing Dynasty (yeah yeah yeah) and I got from 1500rmb to 200rmb. Shopping for Him in Shanghai Vacations to China Better Than Vegas Cool Photography There are a lot of photographers doing some interesting things with Shanghai cityscapes. Where to buy it? Jin Xuan Min Photography Studio & Gallery, Moganshan Road #50, Building 7, Room 101, Shanghai Any Chinese vacations are going to be busy once you get there, you will find that there is so much culture, art, architecture, history, sports and other amazing things to see, do, taste and experience. 2. In Jin's recent work, he takes mundane photos of the demolition of old lane houses, imposes bright backgrounds and vivid details on the black and white image. My husband has recently fallen for Jin Xuan Min's colorful depictions of Shanghai's old and new. Coming home without having experienced all three would be a terrible waste, and would require a return ticket as soon as possible! But if you are a history fan, or you want to experience something uniquely Chinese, there are three main sights in China that you simply cannot miss out on the Terracotta Warriors of Xian, the Great Wall of China, and the Forbidden City in Beijing. The large formats are stunning but his smaller prints are both packable and affordable.

The resident monks follow a very strict discipline, and offer free entry to visitors to help retain their independence. There are two ways of getting to Gaomin Temple – directly to the gate, or take Yangzijiang Road then a short walk along the old canal to a ferryman who will pole the visitor across for one yuan. While they may not understand the language or the cultural significance of the differences, children will enjoy the leisure activities offered in China. But if you want to expose your children to something that will leave a lasting impact and widen their horizons, a China family vacation might be just the ticket. Across Wenchang Road is Yangzhou’s ultra-modern Jinghuacheng shopping mall (with the city’s only Starbucks). Gaomin Temple To the south of the city is Gaomin Temple, which while not as well known as Daming Temple to the north (with an equally imposing pagoda), offers perhaps a more authentic Chinese Buddhism experience. An easy park walk goes in both directions along the canal. Yangzhou Museum This impressive museum complex is to the west of the city - take the No. The other major permanent display depicts in some detail the city’s fascinating story from prehistory to the Qing. A must for those interested in Chinese history, the museum also displays many art objects and a fine collection of landscape paintings. For the parents, the architecture of China can be a very strong draw. In the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Yangzhou was one of the great cities of China. Yangzhou has long been a popular destination for domestic tourists, and now an increasing number of foreigners also visit each year. For the whole family, there are plenty of amazing and educational sights to discover together, like the Great Wall of China; amazing restaurants to try, for the bold and for those who crave something simple; markets and shopping that are at once comfortably similar to home and wildly different than anything ever experienced before; the remaining buildings from the Olympics Games to inspire and awe; and so much more. For a further 40 yuan a small group can hire a boat and join the throngs for some fun on the water. Dongguan Street and the Grand Canal Ancient Ferry Landing Dongguan Street stretches about a kilometre from central Yangzhou to the eastern side of the old city and the Grand Canal . Yangzhou is steeped in history, having been of military significance for over two thousand years, and at the commercial heart of China during several dynasties. China offers something for every member of the family, no matter what their interests are.The park’s main attraction is the lake itself, situated at the southern end closest to the city center, spanned by the impressive and oft-photographed Five Pavilions Bridge. Slender West Lake also contains an impressive collection of penjing (in Japanese - bonsai ), with some truly ancient examples of trees trained in miniature. The entrance fee is 40 yuan. These are just some of the best places to visit during a stay in Yangzhou - there are many others besides. Opened in 2003 and already undergoing expansion, Yangzhou Museum has a wonderful display of block printing and the calligraphy styles and trends that went with it. More than you can imagine, really. Children will also likely be amazed by the spectacle of the dragon boat race festivals, which include exciting boat races, unique cultural displays, and many other visually impressive and culturally meaningful events. From pro-level baseball and basketball games featuring home-grown Chinese talent, to the elegant and graceful Chinese ballets, there are visual wonders everywhere. Yangzhou has a reputation as one of China’s most pleasant urban environments, and a stay there is sure to be pleasant and relaxing. When most people consider a family vacation, they think of theme parks, camping trips, and long hours in the car. Heyuan is the best of them (although some may favour Geyuan, closer to the city center). Heyuan is located in the southeast of the old city proper, about a 30 minute walk from downtown if the visitor is so inclined. A little dilapidated now but still of interest is the White Pagoda, a monument to one of several visits to Yangzhou by Qing Emperor Qianlong. The high season entrance fee to Slender West Lake is 80 yuan. Like so much else of old China, Gaomin Temple is undergoing considerable reconstruction work, but retains its historical importance to the local Buddhist community. Heyuan Garden Yangzhou is famous in China for the mansions and gardens that date back to the days of the Qing when the city was awash with the wealth created by the salt trade . Main Attractions of an Ancient City of Commerce and Art Feb 26, 2010 Brian Cross Yangzhou lies on the northern bank of the Yangze River, three hours west of downtown Shanghai by fast train to Zhenjiang then a short bus ride across the river. A street of recently renovated traditional buildings, it is a mix of souvenir shops, eateries and points of historical interest. It is particularly pleasant to visit on a hot summer’s evening, when ablaze in the coloured lighting. The museum is closed Mondays. Both ways are on bus routes or a taxi may be more convenient. Despite the reconstruction the street is still impressive for its architecture and the ambience of old China it creates. At the end of the walk is the Dongguan Ferry Landing on the banks of the canal. From the temples to the simplest buildings, Chinese architecture is so different and so beautiful that visitors cannot help but stop and stare. A large and impressive residential complex displaying many domestic artifacts is interspersed with traditional garden landscapes and imagery. No better example of this exists than the Forbidden City complex in the heart of Beijing. While Western architecture tends to build their structures tall and narrow, Chinese buildings are shorter and wider, and usually, much more ornate than visitors are accustomed to. Major attractions of the city include: Slender West Lake The sprawling park that contains the aptly-named lake is set on the site of the original Yangzhou settlement just to the north of the old city. A peaceful setting in which to catch one’s breath if the crowds are not too great. For the kids, there is plenty to do in China. A China family vacation might not be the most popular choice going in, but if you can convince your family to give it a shot, it will likely become the best vacation you have ever taken as a family, and one that you will talk about for the rest of your lives. Here, the intricate and detailed planning that went into the design of a city within a city will astound even moderate fans of good design, and completely overwhelm those who understand the intricacies of architectural design. 26 bus or a taxi straight out along Wenchang Road, which bisects Yangzhou. But what is there for the family to do in China? This stretch of the famous waterway has been modified and renovated for the tourist, with murals depicting the long history of its use. It contains remnants of the Tang city walls towards its northern end. What to Take on Holiday to India On Vacation to China? The book shops in the major Indian cities often have good maps along with a vast array of cheap books on everything you ever wanted to read. What Luggage to Bring to India Luggage is another item to consider carefully before you leave home. If you need to be confident and know exactly what you are swallowing - take a comprehensive first aid kit from home. Expect the Unexpected Stepping out into Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Mumbai etc can be a bit like an emotional bungee jump – just go for it! Those who like to travel light should at least take take pain killers, an antiseptic, good band aids and something to appease a stomach bug or soothe an over spiced tummy. Flexibility, patience and a sense of humor are the name of the game. Having a long list of places to visit and things to do in one day is a recipe for failure. If you must, pick one or two places to go in a day. If your tastes run to sports that you will be familiar with as a Western sports fan, you will be able to find an elite level of baseball being played in China. If you want something that the average Western sports fan is only beginning to catch on to, you can find many great martial arts competitions. There are maps available in India but sometimes they are not as detailed as one would like. Good walking shoes will have the traveller gliding easily through city streets, along lanes, through rain and snow, tromping through mud, up rough mountain paths, along beach fronts and racing for the train or bus. Travel Shoes and Luggage Make the Difference on an Indian Holiday Feb 26, 2010 Madi Doherty Landing in any of the major Indian cities is an opportunity to practice patience, a skill that will come in handy to visitors making their way through one of the most populated countries. To avoid frustration mixed with jet lag it’s best to have organized a pick-up from the airport to pre-arranged accommodation before touching down. Most reputable hotels offer a pick-up service and for those on a cheaper budget don’t be surprised if the taxi (and I use the word taxi loosely) is a little rough around the edges. A good map of the city will come in handy and once again it’s best to get one before leaving home. Make sure they are waterproof, light and broken-in. A bag that you can swing on to your back to outwit the touts at major railway stations is a bonus. Shoes and Cosmetics Perhaps the most valuable item one can have in India is a pair of good walking/travel shoes . They are a tourist's best friend and savior. People who are fussy about their own particular cosmetics, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer etc should take their own from home. The importance of good shoes cannot over-emphasized.

As the first serial activities of the annual West Lake Expo, this year's Plum Blossom Festival will last until March 15. In addition to enjoying blooming flowers, tourists can take part in various activities including buying commemorative stamps and postcards, and enjoying a bonsai exhibition with more than 200 plants. Another highlight of this year's event is the launching ceremony of Xingguang Yuan – the Hall of Fame for the winners of China Opera Plum Blossom Awards. The Terracotta Warriors of Xian are an amazing sight. In 1974, a local farmer tried to drill a well, and instead, discovered the first of more than eight thousand clay warrior statues that were buried with the first Emperor of Qin around 200 BC. Not all of the warriors have been excavated, but the ones that have been are miraculously well maintained. Xingguang Yuan will become the exhibition center for traditional Chinese opera research in the future. Yuhang district also recommends two new travel routes during the plum blossom festival, one of which will bring you to the famous historical town Tangxi. Tangxi is an ancient water town located at Yuhang district in the northern suburb of Hangzhou. It is estimated that it took nearly a million men to create this army of clay statues, and it is also said that the terracotta warriors are like snowflakes, in that no two are identical. It is the only one of its kind in China. Till now, Yuhang district has collected more than 300 hand prints of China Opera Plum Blossom Award winners, 70 of which are going to be exhibited here during this festival. In particular, there are three pieces of history that, should you make your way to China, you absolutely must see the Terracotta Warriors of Xian, the Great Wall of China, and d the Forbidden City in Beijing. Dong Tai Road China Family Vacation Offers Plenty to Work With

You can find just about anything from baskets to ceramics, Mao memorabilia, lanterns - junk or treasure - it's up to you. Many an hour can be spent pouring over these treasures, and marvelling at the vastness of the collection. Walk away. Sometimes it works...Shopkeepers are expert at making factory-fired porcelain look old: just rub some dirt on it!Dong Tai Road is just off Tibet or "Xizang" Road near the old part of town. but be prepared when it doesn't. This is a display of the treasures that were owned by royalty in the Qing era, and the beauty and value of their royal items can dazzle. Chinese purveyors are experts at making fakes look like ancient treasures dug up and on sale for a fraction of what you'd pay at Sotheby's. This will get you to the intersection. Please, don't be fooled by the offers of "antiques". Decide if you really want it. It's hard to extract a real price so you'll have to bargain to get close. Decide how much you're willing to pay. How much is it worth to you? Unless you are a dealer in Chinese artifacts and have years of experience, trust me, you won't be able to tell the difference, and even the dealers get fooled . It cost a small fortune but the lady wouldn't budge and I went back to see if she put a replica out after I purchased it. You may find the item again, but you may not. Bargaining 101: Eight Rules and Two Myths About Shopping in China will give you more guidance to shopping and bargaining. Well, just because I'm rather proud of my purchases at Dong Tai Road so I'll share. During one bargaining session the lady told me it was Qing Dynasty (yeah yeah yeah) and I got from 1500rmb to 200rmb. If she did, she had the courtesy to wait until the next day. This is pronounced: "dong tie loo" and literally is the name of the street. If your taxi driver is still confused, you can say "Dong Tai Lu kaojin Xizang Lu", pronounced "dong tie loo cow jeen she zahng loo". The street is bisected by another smaller street and "antique" stores proliferate all over the small neighborhood. Treasure? I've had to ship several to friends and family who can't bear not to purchase but can't fit them in a suitcase. Another tour-worthy site is Chinas Treasure Houses. I've found lovely blue & white porcelain ginger jars (those pot-belly jars with lids). In my experience, the best thing to do is make some snap decisions and then start the negotiations at the low end. Let the buyer beware, unless you are a certified antiques dealer, don't think you'll come away with a Ming vase for a song. I had to walk away twice. We collect antique maps and after reading 1421 , I happened to find a really neat old map of Shanghai. Who knows, but I love it. Old wooden rice buckets are always a favorite, as are reed-woven fishing baskets. Tibet/Xizang Road is a major north-south thoroughfare easy to locate on a map.Daily 9am-6pmIn Mandarin, the market is called Dong Tai Lu . The best thing to do is go with and open mind, a limited budget and a few ideas about what you'd like to have. Some say offer 10% of what the vendor is asking, some say 25% and work up from there. You could easily spend half a day wandering around the stalls of Dong Tai Road. Shopping for Him in Shanghai China on Vacation Means Three Must-See Cities There is a variety of statuaries and pieces of art on display here, and the natural serenity makes this a must see for peace and relaxation seekers who are in China for vacation. Where to buy it? Jin Xuan Min Photography Studio & Gallery, Moganshan Road #50, Building 7, Room 101, Shanghai If you are looking for something more spiritual, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the Da Cien Temple offers a beautiful example of the Buddhist influence on Chinese culture in the 7th century. Cool Photography There are a lot of photographers doing some interesting things with Shanghai cityscapes. The large formats are stunning but his smaller prints are both packable and affordable. In Jin's recent work, he takes mundane photos of the demolition of old lane houses, imposes bright backgrounds and vivid details on the black and white image. 2. My husband has recently fallen for Jin Xuan Min's colorful depictions of Shanghai's old and new. Great Wall of China China Packages china vacations Bejing

There, you will find an amazing history of religion that you could easily lose yourself in study of. Buddhism was introduced to China in this time by the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, who sent emissaries to India to learn about their religion. Arm yourself with a map. It was closed down and abandoned during the Cultural Revolution and following Communist rise to power, but it was kept in good condition. The horse that bore the messengers from India was white, and so when the temple was constructed, it was named for the animal that carried the message of Buddhism into China. The Temple of Heaven was commissioned around the same time as the Forbidden City both were completed at the bequest of the Yongle Emperor. The White Cloud Temple is a Taoist temple that is located in Beijing, and it is one of the great Ancestral Courts in the study of Taoism. The taxi will drop you in the area and then you can wander around. After the construction was completed, the building changed hands many times, being used by different groups and religions over the centuries. Many of the streets are one-way or blocked on weekends. It's nice to go in the morning and then stop somewhere for a dumpling lunch. Don't try to leave the area on a weekday between 4-6pm. You'll know you're in the right place when you see classical Chinese architecture.Plan to spend a nice half-day wandering around, especially if you also want to see the garden and do some shopping. It can be kitschy but it's always fun. The Temple of Heaven is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and consists of a group of buildings used by Taoists throughout the years, and constructed in the 1400s. On a map, it's quite easy to find as Renmin and Zhonghua Roads make a circle around the area. The old city is located just south of Yan'an Road and the Bund. Here is a quick list of the main things to see in Old Town and the Bazaar, but much of the fun is just to wander through the lanes. Despite its Taoist roots, it was originally used as a site to make prayers to Heaven, asking for a plentiful harvest season in China. Built around 70 AD, the White Horse Temple would be the first Buddhist temple in the country. The site was renovated and overhauled in the 18th century, and again just prior to the 2008 Olympic Games. Flocks of domestic and foreign tourists alike head to the area to get their fill of culture. Trying to get a taxi out of the area can be a nightmare. The White Horse Temple is one of the most important Buddhist structures in China. It was built in the eight century, under the Emperorship of the Tang Dynasty. Known by lots of different names such as the Yu Gardens, Yuyuan, Yuyuan Bazaar, and Old Town, the area that surrounds Shanghai's most famous classical garden is tourist central. The area is fun to see at night. While you are on vacation to China, you should take the time to visit these sites. Even if you are not among the faithful of these religions, there is much beauty to be found in the buildings and surrounding grounds, and a fascinating history as well. All the eaves of the buildings are lit up and you can get some fun night photos. Try some of the Shanghai snacks that can be found in the bazaar around the garden and Huxingting Tea House. Be careful with your valuables, it's a crowded place and easy pickings for pickpockets. If you are interested in history and religion, you should go on vacation to China. (A remnant remains on Renmin Road.) Surrounding the garden is the bazaar and surrounding the bazaar is a maze of old laneways and alleys where locals live. Today, it stands as a major tourist attraction and main Taoist prayer site, and the surrounding parks are popular spots for Tai Chi practitioners and joggers. But if you are on a tight time frame, here are three sights that a religious study of China must include. Many of the small alleys aren't labeled but eventually you'll find a main street. Yu Yuan (garden) - the classical Ming garden that was built originally in the 16th century. Huxingting Tea House - the stately floating structure sits outside the gardens in a pond and is accessed by the "nine-turning bridge". Nanxiang Dumplings - just sidle up in the line (that can take over an hour) for some xiao long bao . Central Fangbang Road - a main artery full of curio shops. Best to take a taxi. Chinese cities were traditionally walled and the Nan Shi walls date from the 16th century but were torn down in 1912. Today, it once again operates as a Taoist temple, and inspires those who visit it. All kinds of treasures are located in this small area that was once a walled enclave of Chinese-only when Shanghai was divided into foreign concessions (pre-1949, see Shanghai History ).The garden itself, Yu Yuan, (豫园 "yoo yooahn", which literally means Yu Garden), is in the center of Nan Shi (南市, "nahn shih") the old Chinese part of town. Dongmen Road Fabric Market China Vacations Offer Three Must See Places Many airlines have partnerships with hotel providers and tour operators, and can either book you directly for the entirety of your package, or can at least direct you to their partner for more information. Three-floor market for printers, computers, digital cameras, memory sticks, replacement batteries and all computer and camera accessories. You can also enquire with the airline about the availability of last minute saver fares to China, which would be substantially less expensive, but would require you to be on standby for a flight that you might not end up taking. If you're coming to look for brand-names cheap, then look elsewhere as import duties are high. If you have booked a tour in China, this can be problematic. ( How to use the subway ) If you prefer not to deal with a travel agent, you can contact the airlines directly. But Chinese products are inexpensive and you can pick up memory sticks, additional camera batteries, external hard-drives and the like very inexpensively.1 Huaihai Zhong Lu, 淮海中路1号,近西藏南路 Say it in Chinese: "hwai hai zhong loo, ee how". 10am-8pmThere's a metro stop at Dashijie station, line 8. Two other notable exhibits are a palanquin that was used to carry priests and a chariot that was used to carry the idols of deities during festivals. Diwan-I-Khas of City Palace One can enter Diwan-I-Khas (Hall of private audience), through the big brass gateway of Mubarak Mahal. The names are as follows: Sukh-Niwas, Ranga-Mandir, Pitam-Niwas, Chabi-Niwas, Shri-Niwas and Mukut-Mandir or Mukut Mahal. The Maharani's Palace has been converted to weapons museum. The four gates are the Peacock Gate, Lotus Gate, Green Gate and the Rose Gate, representing autumn, summer, spring and winter seasons respectively. Ananda Mandir (mandir means temple in Hindi) is located near the Pitam Niwas courtyard. To serve the purpose of carrying water for the king, the sterling silver vessels are made, which are now recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the World's largest silver vessels. City Palace is known for its architectural excellence. As they made those vessels for carrying Ganga water, they are named Gangajelies. Diwan-I-Aam of City Palace Diwan-I-Aam (Hall of public audience) is now an art gallery. The things of interest in Diwan-I-Khas are two gigantic sterling silver vessels, measuring 5.2 feets in height and 340 Kgs in weight, with a capacity of 4000 litres. One of the Artistic Wonders of India Mar 6, 2010 Prakash Thulasimani City Palace is located at the heart of the city of Jaipur, India. One of those baggis is of great significance, because it was the one presented by Prince of Wales to Maharaja in 1876. It is basically a museum with a variety of textiles on display. Ground floor houses a museum, where one can see beautiful things that belong to the royal families. The two main entrances for the City Palace are Jaleb Chowk and Tripolia Gate. There is an interesting fact about those sterling silver vessels. The highly pious Hindu (one who belongs to the religion of Hinduism is called a Hindu) king, Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II wanted to take the sacred water of the river Ganges on his travel to England in 1901. The building has seven storeys and each floor bears a specific name. The most reputed textiles that are on display include sanganeri block prints, folk-embroidery shawls, banaras silk sarees, Kashmiri pashminas, the clothes of Sawai Madhosingh I and other royal costumes. Chandra Mahal is also called as Chandra Niwas. It is the largest city square in the world, and is surrounded by such wonders as the Heavenly Gate to the Forbidden City, and several museums. Tours regularly stop there, and wander the expansive open space. The copies of Bhagawad Gita which are on display are extremely small. The ceiling looks very attractive. One among them is the scissor-action dagger, which when hit on a victim will cut his body part by part. They call those four small gates as Ridhi Sidhi Pol. The square was designed to reflect the pride of China. It is one of the major tourist attractions of India. The other exhibits include Rajasthani, Mughal and Persian miniature paintings with themes from Ramayana, rugs with embroidery works, Kashmir shawls, elephant saddles and carpets. There are spectacular paintings, mirror works and floral decorations on the wall. There is a cute little canon that could be mounted on a camel's back. The ceiling contains frescoes that are indeed awesome and well-preserved, using jewel dust of semiprecious stones. Pitam Niwas Chowk and Bhaggi Khana of the City Palace Pitam Niwas Chowk is the inner courtyard of City Palace with four gates featuring the four seasons. It is known as the Victoria Baggi. The architecture of City Palace is a blend of Mughal, Rajput and European architectural styles. The flooring is of mirror-polished marble. The arms and weapons of the Rajputs are on display. Bhaggi Khana is another museum that has a great collection of carriages, palanquins, European cabs adopted as baggis to Indian environment. It is said that they melted 14000 silver coins without soldering to make those vessels. There are green gardens around Chandra Mahal and a small lake is there in the foreground. The Maharani's Palace in the City Palace Campus Maharani is a Hindi word, meaning Queen. According to him, it is a religious sin to drink foreign water. Valuable, antique and original handwritten manuscripts of Hindu scriptures are on display. Another reputed exhibit is the golden throne, where the Maharaja sits during public audience. City Palace is one of the artistic wonders of India. One more entrance to City Palace is the Virendra Pol. The Mubarak Mahal and Chandra Mahal of City Palace One can enter City Palace through the Tripolia Gate, where he can see the Mubarak Mahal (Auspicious Palace). There are several museums and palaces to visit. There is a rich history associated with City Palace. Another decorative weapon is the sword presented by Queen Victoria to Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh. The display includes daggers, pistols, swords, cannons, guns, blades etc. Those who plan to visit Rajasthan must visit City Palace for sure. While there are some negative impressions and events attached to it now, Tiananmen Square was meant to be a very peaceful part of Beijing. Maharani Palace means the place where the queens reside. One has to enter Chandra Mahal through a cute peacock gate. The Best Sights of Yangzhou Chinese Vacations Offer Historical Amazement

It is particularly pleasant to visit on a hot summer’s evening, when ablaze in the coloured lighting. Despite the reconstruction the street is still impressive for its architecture and the ambience of old China it creates. At the end of the walk is the Dongguan Ferry Landing on the banks of the canal. The park’s main attraction is the lake itself, situated at the southern end closest to the city center, spanned by the impressive and oft-photographed Five Pavilions Bridge. Slender West Lake also contains an impressive collection of penjing (in Japanese - bonsai ), with some truly ancient examples of trees trained in miniature. The museum is closed Mondays. A large and impressive residential complex displaying many domestic artifacts is interspersed with traditional garden landscapes and imagery. In the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Yangzhou was one of the great cities of China. Yangzhou has long been a popular destination for domestic tourists, and now an increasing number of foreigners also visit each year. Tours regularly stop there, and wander the expansive open space. It is the largest city square in the world, and is surrounded by such wonders as the Heavenly Gate to the Forbidden City, and several museums. Major attractions of the city include: Slender West Lake The sprawling park that contains the aptly-named lake is set on the site of the original Yangzhou settlement just to the north of the old city. An easy park walk goes in both directions along the canal. Yangzhou Museum This impressive museum complex is to the west of the city - take the No. This stretch of the famous waterway has been modified and renovated for the tourist, with murals depicting the long history of its use. A street of recently renovated traditional buildings, it is a mix of souvenir shops, eateries and points of historical interest. Yangzhou is steeped in history, having been of military significance for over two thousand years, and at the commercial heart of China during several dynasties. The other major permanent display depicts in some detail the city’s fascinating story from prehistory to the Qing. A must for those interested in Chinese history, the museum also displays many art objects and a fine collection of landscape paintings. Both ways are on bus routes or a taxi may be more convenient. It contains remnants of the Tang city walls towards its northern end. Yangzhou has a reputation as one of China’s most pleasant urban environments, and a stay there is sure to be pleasant and relaxing. While there are some negative impressions and events attached to it now, Tiananmen Square was meant to be a very peaceful part of Beijing. 26 bus or a taxi straight out along Wenchang Road, which bisects Yangzhou. A peaceful setting in which to catch one’s breath if the crowds are not too great. Heyuan is the best of them (although some may favour Geyuan, closer to the city center). Heyuan is located in the southeast of the old city proper, about a 30 minute walk from downtown if the visitor is so inclined. Main Attractions of an Ancient City of Commerce and Art Feb 26, 2010 Brian Cross Yangzhou lies on the northern bank of the Yangze River, three hours west of downtown Shanghai by fast train to Zhenjiang then a short bus ride across the river. The entrance fee is 40 yuan. These are just some of the best places to visit during a stay in Yangzhou - there are many others besides. A little dilapidated now but still of interest is the White Pagoda, a monument to one of several visits to Yangzhou by Qing Emperor Qianlong. The high season entrance fee to Slender West Lake is 80 yuan. The square was designed to reflect the pride of China. Opened in 2003 and already undergoing expansion, Yangzhou Museum has a wonderful display of block printing and the calligraphy styles and trends that went with it. What to Take on Holiday to India China Vacation Sports Lots of Fun It's not likely Indian pharmacies will carry a visitor's preferred brands. Travel Medicines . India has a plentiful supply of pharmacies with many items available without prescriptions. While bags with wheels are handy they tend to be a bit useless in India because footpaths are not always footpaths - they tend to be fragmented and disappear. Good walking shoes will have the traveller gliding easily through city streets, along lanes, through rain and snow, tromping through mud, up rough mountain paths, along beach fronts and racing for the train or bus. These groups can range from tiny to massive, and can either bore you with simple visits to typical sites, or wow you with unexpected treats and unknown wonders. They are a tourist's best friend and savior. People who are fussy about their own particular cosmetics, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer etc should take their own from home. What you take from your time in China will be vastly different, depending on which tour you take.Flexibility, patience and a sense of humor are the name of the game. Having a long list of places to visit and things to do in one day is a recipe for failure. If you must, pick one or two places to go in a day. A bag that you can swing on to your back to outwit the touts at major railway stations is a bonus. Shoes and Cosmetics Perhaps the most valuable item one can have in India is a pair of good walking/travel shoes . Most reputable hotels offer a pick-up service and for those on a cheaper budget don’t be surprised if the taxi (and I use the word taxi loosely) is a little rough around the edges. A good map of the city will come in handy and once again it’s best to get one before leaving home. If you need to be confident and know exactly what you are swallowing - take a comprehensive first aid kit from home. Expect the Unexpected Stepping out into Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Mumbai etc can be a bit like an emotional bungee jump – just go for it! The importance of good shoes cannot over-emphasized. There are maps available in India but sometimes they are not as detailed as one would like. Make sure they are waterproof, light and broken-in. The book shops in the major Indian cities often have good maps along with a vast array of cheap books on everything you ever wanted to read. What Luggage to Bring to India Luggage is another item to consider carefully before you leave home. Those who like to travel light should at least take take pain killers, an antiseptic, good band aids and something to appease a stomach bug or soothe an over spiced tummy. The sort of trip you end up with depends on you you will need to do your research before you book a package deal, and make sure you are getting what you paid for. If you achieve one item on your list congratulate yourself on your achievement and your ability to go with the flow. Books on India to Get You in the Mood To get your self in the swing a bit of reading won’t go astray. For a good introduction to Delhi: William Dalrymple’s - City Of Djinns written in 1994. For food lovers: Madhur Jaffery’s - Climbing the Mango Trees (a memoir of a childhood in India). Contemporary India: Aravind Adiga’s - The White Tiger (Man Booker prize 2008) If you would like to see China, and I mean really see it, and not just like the typical tourist, you might want to consider China vacation tours.

Taking a Taxi Vacationing In China Offers Everything
Posted on March 07, 2010 in China deals
Sound complicated? It isn't. Assuming you don't speak Mandarin, it is essential that you have your destination written down in Chinese. First, most large hotels have a convenient "taxi card" for you to take with you as you step out the door. These cards have the hotel (so you can get back) written on one side and usually 10-15 tourist destinations on the other side. It is not as simple as booking a travel deal for a more common Western destination but your hard work will pay off once you land in China, and begin your dream vacation. If the card doesn't have where you want to go, simply ask the concierge to write it down for you. Even if your hotel doesn't have a pre-printed taxi card, staff will be happy to write down your destination for you to give the driver. In the end, finding China vacation packages means doing some legwork and some research.
